Lemongrass - How to propagate from stalks purchased from supermarket (Part 1)
Now, let's talk about how to propagate and glow lemongrass from stalk that are bought from supermarket. Alternatively, you can take a look at the following video (Growing Lemongrass from stalks) to learn how to propagate lemongrass from stalk.
Why I do this? Because I saw some fresh lemongrass at the nearby supermarket.
Of course, I cherry picked my lemongrass. As a section tips
1) I will look for fresh lemongrass stem that are placed in fresh vegetable section.
2) The stem should not be black or moldy
3) If there are sign of new root, great!
Below is an example of a packets of fresh lemongrass
As you can see, I choose lemongrass stem which are clean and look freshy white.
To aid root grow, I trim the bottom of the stalk
To aid leave grow, I cut half of the stem away. The stalks from supermarket are often too tall anyway.
Next, all you need is to put the prepared lemongrass stems into a containers and filled it with water. A rule of thumb, the water level should cover the bottom part of the stem. If you fill the container with too much water, you may drown the lemongrass stalk.
Finally, wait for root to grow. To prevent insect to grow in the water, you would recommend you to rinse the container and change the water daily.
